Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
CBC has been in existence 28 years. Bill & Jeannette Haken started the church here in their hometown in 1980. The church met in 5 different locations until moving into its campus here on Rt. 39 in 2007.
What is your primary product or service?
We provide worship services, children and youth programs on Sundays and Wednesday night (AWANA and Teen Club), men's and women's ministries. Bible teaching notes are available online at www.cbc.nu - click on sermon notes.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Jeannette and I traveled for 11 years across the United States in full-time evangelism. My father was the director of Mt. Lou San Bible Camp behind Linglestown for 40 years. We saw the need for an independent Bible teaching church here on the northeast side of Harrisburg.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We aim to be a friendly, caring community with emphasis upon teaching the Bible and relating it practically to the lives of people and their families. Additionally, the Capital Bible Institute provides CEU's through Lancaster Bible College. We have also been on TV continuously since 1988 on Comcast Cable 56; this program is video-taped digitally, in-house, by our own members.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have one location on 40 acres of ground purchased in 2001. We moved into the Family Life Center auditorium which is Phase 1, in March 2007. Plans are finished for two more phases:Phase 2 will be the Worship Center and Phase 3 will be a two story classroom facility. These two phases will be built as the debt is retired.
Provide detailed directions to your location
We are located .5 mile off exit 77, Manada Hill/Hershey, on Rt. 39/100 N. Hershey Road, between Rt. 22 and I-81.
What type of payments do you accept?
Offerings of cash, checks, equipment, real estate, stocks and bequests have been given through the years. CBC is supported by the free-will offerings of those who worship with us.
Which areas do you service?
We have people who come to our church from as far away as Columbia, Lebanon, Mechanicsburg, Camp Hill, Harrisburg and many other areas. Our convenient location off I-81 makes us easily accessible to the entire Greater Harrisburg area.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Capital Bible Church is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) religious organization governed by a Board of Elders elected by the membership. Pastor Bill Haken Sr. as the full-time senior pastor oversees a large group of faithful volunteers who take care of the facilities and 40 acre campus.
